The NCSS Governing Board was not able to hold an election for 2008-2009 NCSS Officers on Sept. 10 due to a lack of a quorum to do business. Eighteen state societies were needed but only seventeen attended the meeting. PLEASE SAVE THE DATE OF THURSDAY, OCT. 8th at 6:30 PM in The Hall of States for the next NCSS Governing Board Meeting at which time new officers will be elected for the coming year. In accordance with NCSS Bylaws, a Nominations Committee has made its reports and nominations are always permitted from the floor. The NCSS Board meetings are normally held on the second Thursday of the month except for July and August. The remaining meetings for 2009 will be held at the Hall of States on Thursday, Nov. 12 and as funds might permit, a holiday cheer meeting with slices of pizza and soft drinks on Thursday, Dec. 10. In the new year, NCSS Board meetings are scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 7, 2010 and then on February 11, March 11, and the annual meeting on May 13. The board will determine in the spring if there is enough time or a need for an April Board meeting since dates will be hard to schedule around the National Cherry Blossom Festival from Saturday, March 27 - Sunday, April 11. The second week of the festival that includes NCSS and state society Cherry Blossom Princess events starts with the Lantern Ceremony on the Tidal Basin on Sunday, April 4 and ends with the parade and Sakura Matsuri street fair on Saturday, April 10, 2010.
State Princess applications with color photos of princesses will be due to the NCSS Cherry Blossom Committee early in January, 2010 and further details will be sent to state society presidents by email in early December.
