Pacific Northwest State Societies Golf Tournament is Saturday, Oct.24

 

 

 

 

The Alaska State Society has been invited to attend, along with the sponsoring Idaho, Oregon, and Washington state societies, a charity golf tournament on Saturday, October 24, 2009, at the Reston National Golf Course in Reston, Virginia.  

Here' the note from the Oregon State Society, the primary organizer for anyone interested:  The State Societies will organize team handicaps and prizes will be awarded at a post-tournament buffet lunch.    

WHAT:     Pacific Northwest Open Charity Golf Tournament (benefitting Habitat for Humanity) 

WHEN:     Saturday, October 24, 2009.  Shotgun format begins promptly at 7:45 AM.  Please arrive between 7:00 and 7:15 AM.

WHERE:   Reston National Golf Course: I-495 to Dulles Toll Rd. (Rt. 267) to exit 12 (Reston Parkway) south to Sunrise Valley Drive and turn left.  Course is one block on the right.  It's about a 30 minute drive from D.C.

Contest and hole sponsorships are still available.  To sponsor or register for the PNW Open, please e-mail pnwopen@hotmail.com.   You may register individually or as a foursome.  Unfortunately, due to the shotgun format, space is limited to 120 players.  If you have additional questions regarding the tournament, please contact Wally Hsueh at 703-786-5626. 

Texas State Society Terlingua Two Step is Nov. 19

Dust off your boots, put your cowboy hats on straight, and clear off the evening of Thursday, November 19^th for the Texas State Society’s annual Terlingua Two-Step. We’ll be kicking up the dust on the Clarendon Ballroom’s dance floor (3185 Wilson Boulevard, Arlington, VA; Metro: Orange Line, Clarendon stop) starting at 7:30 p.m. to the tunes of GARY P. NUNN and other notable Honky Tonk Texas recording artists. Light hors d’oeuvres along with cash bar will be available all night long.

Tickets are $35.00 per person, available online at www.texasstatesociety.org. (On right side column click on Terlingua Two-Step under Upcoming Events.) If you wish, you can pay by check made out to the Texas State Society and sent to PO Box 1368, Bowie, MD 20718-1368. No tickets will be mailed in advance; guest list will be at the door.

22 State Societies Meet to Elect New NCSS Officers for 2009-2010

Next to the right is John Magnusson of the Minnesota State Society who was elected First Vice President of NCSS. Next is Lorna Daniels of the Hawaii State Society who was elected as NCSS President for the coming year, at right is former Guam Society President and immediate past NCSS President Lou Barrett who passed her gavel to Lorna Daniels on Oct. 8 but remains on the executive committee as a non-voting member and advisor to the new president.  Other officers elected were California State Society Delegate Robert Hoffman as NCSS Vice President External, Maryland State Society President Suzanne New as NCSS Vice President Internal, Virginia Society President Robert Sullivan as Vice President for Marketing, and Montana State Society Delegate Athena Schritz was elected as NCSS Secretary for the coming year.  NCSS congratulates the new officers and thanks the outgoing officers for their service in the last year.  The new officers will serve until June 2010 when the current Fiscal Year ends.  Delegates of Presidents from the following 22 state societies voted in the election on Thursday, Oct. 8. A quorum was present and the 22 state societies voting included the following: Guam, West Virginia, Maine, Minnesota, Massachusetts, Illinois, Montana, Nebraska, Texas, New York, Alaska, New Jersey, American Samoa, Hawaii, Maryland, California, Indiana, Wisconsin, Missouri, Vermont, Virginia, and Ohio.  After the election of officers former NCSS President Paul Sweet of California who is chair of the bylaws revision committee, proposed a bylaws change that was adopted to reduce the quorum for future NCSS board meetings from 18 to 12 state societies so that routine business may be conducted. NCSS Treasurer Brad Mantel of Ohio reported combined positive balances of $22,000 in two NCSS accounts as of Oct. 8. NCSS Acting General Counsel Kristy Tsadick of Caplin and Drysdale advised the American Samoa Society to seek legal advice on the DC regulations on how to raise money in DC for the relief of victims of the tsunami in American Samoa where at least 154 persons were killed or are missing. The next NCSS board meeting will be held on Thursday, Nov. 12 at the Hall of States.

Maryland State Society All You Can Eat Crab Feast is Sunday, Oct. 25

   The Maryland State Society invites you attend the annual All-You-Can-Eat Crab Feast at 1 PM on Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009 at Lambert's Seafood Restaurant, 10825 Lanham Severn Road, Glen Dale, MD 20769.  The Maryland Society member price is $25 per member and the non-member price is $33 per person.  Includes all-you-can-eat french fries and salad bar.  Call Maryland Society Program chair Claudia Frye at 571-480-2856 if you have questions.  Send your check made payable to the "Maryland State Society" to Treasurer Tod Deist, 15321 Comus Road, Clarksburg, MD 20871.
