To date 175 men, women and children have killed as a result of the Tsunami waves that hit our homeland on September 29th. Thirty Two died in American Samoa, while 143 died in Samoa. An additional 9 people died in Tonga and 10 are reported still missing in American Samoa and Samoa. In response to the sad news,especially the loss of lives in the Samoan Islands, the Samoan Congregational Church at Fort Myer has decided to hold a special Memorial Service this coming Sunday, October 18, at 10:00 A.M. at the Old Post Chapel, in Fort Myer, to remember and honor those whose lives were lost to the tsunami. The Samoan Congregational Church has initiated a Tsunami Relief effort, through the collection of funds, on four (4) designated offerings, over the next, several weeks to help the families of the victims in American Samoan and Samoa. The specific dates for the Tsunami Relief designated Offerings are: Sunday, October 18 ......Samoa Sunday, November 1......American Samoa Sunday, November 15....Samoa Sunday, November 29....American Samoa Checks/Money Orders can be made payable to Chapel Tithes and Offerings Funds, or CTOF Account-managed and administered by the Chaplin's Office of the U.S. Army Post at Fort Myer and then transferred to the Red Cross local chapters in American Samoa and Samoa.
