Kansas State Society Honors David Dillon on April 22

Kansas Kansans in Washington, please save the date. The Kansas State Society of Washington, DC will hold its annual Cherry Blossom Banquet on Tuesday, April 22 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel.  The society will honorDillon2 Mr. David Dillon, CEO of the Kroger Coorporation, with its 2008 Kansan of the Year Award. There will be cocktails at 6:30 pm followed by dinner at 7:30 pm.

David Dillon is a native of Hutchison, Kansas and a 1969 graduate of Hutchison High School.  He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business form Kansas University and a Jursi doctorate from Southern Methodist University.  After starting his career with King Soopers in Denver, Dillon moved to Phoenix and held different positions with Fry's Food Stores of Arizona.  He returned to Kansas where he was named President of the Dillon Company in 1986. In 1995, he moved to Ohio to assume the position of President of Kroger Corporation. Under different banners, Kroger Corp. owns and manages hundreds of retail food stores in about 31 states. 

In 1994 David Dillon was honored as the Leadership Kansas Alumnus of the Year and in 1999 he received the Distinguished Alumni Award from the Kansas University School of Business.

Save the date: Jan. 30 is Kansas Day at Clyde's Restaurant in Gallery Place

The Kansas State Society of KansaslogoWashington, DC invites members, friends, and Kansans to the annual Kansas Day Reception and Happy Hour sponsored by the University of Kansas on Wednesday, Jan. 30 from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm.  The location is Clyde's Restaurant at Gallery Place, 707 Seventh Street, NW.  CLICK HERE for map.  The closest Metro Stop is Gallery Place-Chinatown on the Yellow and Green Lines. There will be complimentary beer, wine, and hors d'oeuvres to celebrate the 147th birthday of the state of Kansas. The Kansas State Society Invites Kansans Oct. 18

Kansas The Kansas State Society of Washington, DC invites all Kansas expatirates now living in the greater Washington, DC area to visit the 2007 Kansas State University Solar Decathalon Entry near the Metro stop behind the information center at the Smithsonian Castle.  The reception is 6-8 PM on Thursday, Oct. 18 on the National Mall near the Metro Stop escalator.

Faculty members and students from the KSU College of Architecture, Planning, and Design will be present to answer questions about their solar power building design.  Please RSVP by Monday, Oct. 15 by sending an email to POTTS@ksu.edu or by calling 785-532-1090.  For more information about the KSU entry see www.solardecathalon.org.

The Kansas Society Says Thank You for Your Help

Kansas_2The Kansas State Society of Washington, DC tornado relief project raised $8,000 in May.

Greensburg, Kansas on May 4th.

Thank you to everyone who attended the Kansas Society tornado relief event last week. Through your generosity, we raised more than $8,000 --
including $2,000 on Wednesday night, May 16 at The Top of the Hill, the society's $1,000 contribution, and a $5,000 gift from the Mortgage Insurance Companies of America.

For those of you who couldn't make it to Top of the Hill, it's not too late to help.  In addition to supporting the Red Cross, Salvation Army and United Way, you can help Redcrosssmaller Greensburg rebuild by contributing to the Greensburg Future Fund established by the South-Central Kansas Community Foundation.  Checks should be made payable to "South Central Community Foundation" with a memo to "Greensburg Future Fund."  Donors can earmark the contributions for "education," "health care" or "community rebuilding."  The mailing address is South Central Community Foundation, P.O.
