Massachusetts Society St. Patrick's Lunch is Sunday, March 15

Saint_patrick3 The Massachusetts Society of Washington, DC will host a St. Patrick's Feast Day Lunch at Channel Inn's Pier 7 Restaurant, 650 Water Street, SW, on Sunday, March 15 at 1 pm.  The price is $31.50 per person including gratuity.  For more information, call Ellie Harvey at 301-530-5169.  The deadline to make a reservation is Feb. 27. Massachusetts Society Celebrates Statehood Day on Friday, Feb. 6th

MASSMAP  The Baystater Newsletter of the Massachusetts Society of Washington, DC reports that the society members and guests will observe Statehood Day on Friday, Feb. 6.  There will be a Massachusetts wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at 11 am followed by a no-host luncheon at the Fort Myer Officers' Club.  One of the original thirteen colonies, Massachusets was the sixth state to join the Union on Feb. 6, 1788.  Please send an email to rutherno@cox.net to put your name on a guest list to be held at the Fort Myer entry gate.  Or call Ruth Erno at 703-256-4621 for more information.  This month the society welcomes three new members; Jean Holz of Quincy, Charlotte Kasdon of Boston, and Robert and Maryellen Magner of Medford/Danvers/Somerville/Gloucester.  The society is planning the St. Patrick's Day Dinner for March 15 and both a June and July event at Wolf Trap.  The Massachusetts Society was incorporated in DC on May 18, 1926.

Massachusetts Society Dec. 7 Brunch Will Honor Bay State Heroes

The Massachusetts Society of Washington, DC Fort_myer_officers_clubwill host a "Holiday Champagne Brunch" in the Campaign Room of the historic Fort Myer Officers' Club, pictured at right, on Sunday, Dec. 7th, 2008  from 11:30 am to 2 pm.  Santa Claus will make an appearance to help trim the tree, lead the singing of carols, share a cup of eggnog with guests, and lead guests to a scrumptious buffet. Even Santa will get the special member rate of $27 per person.  While the mood is always festive and full of holiday cheer, our society will also honor some military heroes from our home Commonwealth on the 67th anniversary of one of the most famous days in American history.  Please make your checks payaple to "Massachusetts Society" and mail to Miriam Towey, 1016 South Wayne Street, Number 309, Arlington, Va. 22204 not later than Nov. 26 to make sure you have a reservation.  You may email Miriam for more information at towey1016@verizon.net.

Massachusetts and Maine Princess Dinner is April 10

The Massachusetts Society and the Maine State Society will jointly sponsor a dinner in honor of the cherry blossom princesses from both states on Thursday, April 10, 2008 in the Devers Room of the Fort Myer Officers Club.  Meet the two state princesses and their families.  The price is $27 per guest and the menu includes Chicken Marsala, roasted red potatoes, vegetables du jour, dinner rolls, dessert, coffee, tea, or decaf.  Checks should be made payable to the Maine State Society and mailed to Marjorie Pearson, 3434 Upside Court, Falls Church, Va. 22042-4019.  Or call Marge at 703-536-6919.  Please be sure to include full names of persons in your party with your reservation.  A pre-approved name list is required to enter the base and everyone must show a current government-issued photo ID such as a drivers' license or military ID card.

Illinois and Massachusetts Host St. Patrick's Day Parties

Saint_patrick3 Several state societies will celebrate the feast day of Patrick, the Patron Saint of Ireland, during the middle of March.  The Illinois State Society of Washington, DC will host its annual St. Patrick's Day Party on Thursday night, March 13 from 6 pm to 8 pm at Finn macCool's Irish Publick House, 713 8th Street, SE, Washington, DC.  CLICK HERE to see map. Admission is free to Illinois State Society members and $15 for nonmembers. Massachusetts Statehood Day Ceremony is Feb. 6

Tomb6              Members, guests, and friends of The Massachusetts Society of Washington, DC will observe Statehood Day on Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2008 with the ceremonial placement of a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington Natioal Cemetery at 11 a.m.  This will observe the 220th anniversary year of Massachusetts statehood.  Following the ceremony, we will adjourn to the Fort Myer Officers' Club for a buffet lunch.  The cost including tip is $11 per person payable at the door.  Please send an email to Ruth Erno at rutherno@cox.net no later than noon on February 4th to reserve luncheon seats.  Also, save the date of March 16 for the Boston Bruins v. Washington Capitals hockey game at the Verizon Center.  Details to follow.
